The City Can Become a Classroom
Amsterdam reveals lessons about movement, structure, trade, migration, belonging, and reinvention when we learn how to look.
A street can teach history. A canal can teach structure. A station can teach movement and becoming. The city changes when we stop moving through it passively and begin asking what it reveals.
For a person who has migrated, arrival is never only geographical. It creates a conversation between who you were, who you are, and who you may become. Looking through an African lens adds memory, community, survival, trade, spirituality, and reinvention to that conversation.
Perspective is valuable because it changes what we notice. What we notice changes what we understand. What we understand can change how we live.
